So you lifted your truck and now your front diff is sticking out under your frame. The last thing you want to happen is to hit it on a rock while offroading and leak all the fluid out.
We've been making these for the first gen trucks for years and can confirm they do in-fact prevent the thin steel diff cover from getting peeled open. 
The rings also offer a skid plate effect and are the sacrificial component when you do contact a rock.
You can even paint, powdercoat, cerakote or even anodize the ring to match your truck.
