If you’ve ever used an engine hoist on a sloped driveway, you already know the problem… the thing does NOT stay where you left it. Mine likes to slowly roll down the driveway like it’s trying to escape the shop. So instead of fighting it, we decided to upgrade it. In this video we modify a standard engine hoist (cherry picker) with a few simple upgrades that make it way more useful around the shop: • Wheel brakes so it stops trying to run away • Receiver hitch welded into the boom so the hoist can mount into a truck hitch and reach engines in storage or wherever we can back up to • Air-over-hydraulic conversion for easier lifting • Onboard air tank so it’s self-contained • Magnetic LED lights so you can actually see what you're doing when pulling engines Some of these are practical… some might be a little ridiculous… but all of them make this old cherry picker a lot more useful. If you’ve got a hoist sitting in the corner of your garage, this might give you a few ideas.
